Irish extend Sale slump

13 April 2012

Early pacemakers Sale slithered to their second Premiership setback in succession as London Irish sailed home in style in front of a 4,000 plus crowd at a rain-soaked Madejski Stadium.

An early try by flanker Eddie Halvey converted by Jarrod Cunningham, who also landed three penalties gave the Exiles a commanding 16-0 lead midway through the second half. Although Sale's Mel Deane cut the deficit with a try, Exiles' wing Justin Bishop touched down to clinch a fourth win in six starts for the Irish.

Skipper Conor O'Shea completed Sale's misery with an injury-time try and the conversion took Cunningham's tally to 13 points.

Alex Sanderson scored a try in the final seconds but it was only a token gesture and, faced with the prospect of taking on champions Leicester next week, Sales's slide looks set to continue.
