Irish Open pair are disqualified

14 April 2012

England's Jamie Spence and Swede Christopher Hanell were today disqualified from the Irish Open after the first round.

Spence signed for a wrong score while Hanell had played his ball from an incorrect position on the 10th hole yesterday.

Spence said: "It's the first time I've done that and I'm a silly idiot for not checking the card closer. What a plonker."

Overnight co-leader Nick Dougherty, of England, was in the lead on his own on five under with four holes of his second round to play. He was one shot ahead of Ryder Cup star David Howell.
