It's Open season for the Saltmans

David Smith13 April 2012

Wimbledon had the Murray brothers, The Open will have the Saltmans.

Elliot, a 27-year-old who plays on the EuroPro Tour, and 23-year-old brother Lloyd both came through qualifying. The youngest of the siblings, Zack, will do his part by carrying Elliot's bag after missing out on regional qualifying by one shot.

Lloyd and Elliot are the first brothers to play in The Open since Jumbo and Joe Ozaki in 1992 and they have already discovered Turnberry has teeth.

Elliot, being coached by Bob Torrance, who also hones the game of Open champion Padraig Harrington, said: "We played 18 holes the other day and it was quite a shock to take those fairways on. If you miss the fairways, it's so hard to get to the greens. We both want to make the cut and then see where it takes us. As Lloyd tells me, anything might happen."

Lloyd won the Silver Medal as leading amateur in the 2005 Open at St Andrews. He said: "We're a close family and we were all together in 2005, I don't think we'd have it any other way. We like to be together and share our experiences."
