Ivanisevic unhappy with changes

Goran Ivanisevic believes the latest attempts to tamper with top-class tennis should be laughed off the court.

The 2001 Wimbledon champion, already an opponent of the increasing use of Hawkeye technology to decide line-call disputes, believes that the ATP's introduction of round-robin groups to some of their tournaments constitutes a double fault.

"They are going to try a new system with groups. They've done it in the Masters at the end of the year for many years but now they want to try it in other tournaments. I don't agree with it.," said the Croat. "If you lose you should be out."

He added: "Everything is money and TV. If you pay Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal huge money and they lose first round they are out, but now they are going to play twice so, even if they lose, they can win the tournament in the end.

"TV money dictates everything. Somebody might beat Federer once, but not twice in the same tournament," he complained.

The experiment will be introduced in Adelaide in January and, even though he plays the same format on the Merrill Lynch Tour of Champions, Ivanisevic argues it has no place in the main game.

While big names like John McEnroe have declared themselves firmly in favour of Hawkeye, which was trialled at the Royal Albert Hall last year and then used at this year's US Open, Ivanisevic said: "It's not good.

"This is tennis. Okay, to invent something can help you sometimes but you have to deal with this.

"Sometimes you get cheated on a couple of points and sometimes they give you a couple. This is good about tennis.

"But if every two seconds you have someone replaying the thing and saying what's good and what's not good, I don't agree with this either."
