Jodie joining the rush hour for triathlon in Canary Wharf

Get set go: Jodie Stimpson
13 April 2012

Commuters in Docklands have been warned they'll get the shock of their lives on their way home tonight.

British Olympic hopeful Jodie Stimpson is among the star turns lining up for the new-for-2011 GE Canary Wharf Triathlon.

The 22-year-old, who only made the step up to the senior triathlon ranks last season, was Britain's top woman at last weekend's European Championships in 10th place.

Of tonight's event, she said: "We're going to be running around in tri suits as people head home from work. When I first saw the lay-out of the course, I thought how are they going to put a race on here?

"But it looks great and I'm sure we'll turn a few heads as we fly past all those commuters." The event is one of a litany of stepping stones for Stimpson, who took up the sport at the age of nine on the suggestion of her uncle, as she battles for a place on the British team for next year's Olympics.

She said: "Helen Jenkins is our No.1 at the moment but the Olympics is the target. It's something I want to do, to compete and be the very best that I can."
