Johnson admits to Slam woes

Chris Jones13 April 2012

England captain Martin Johnson has admitted that beating world champions Australia and South Africa was very little compensation for messing up a third Grand Slam chance against Ireland in Dublin.

Johnson missed the Dublin match due to injury and England made it three successive failures to take the biggest prize in Northern Hemisphere rugby.

Johnson said: "Winning trophies is what's it's all about for me. We've had a good autumn, of course, but we won't be getting carried away with our successes.

"But we lost the chance of a Grand Slam for the third successive year in this period too, which obviously rankles, and while it's been great to beat some of the best teams in the world we now need to do that in a competitive tournament."
