Johnson is greatly looking forward to his 'lucky' race

The gold trail: Johnson owns Great Endeavour

Owner David Johnson says Great Endeavour has a good each-way chance in next month's Paddy Power Gold Cup at Cheltenham.

Headed by Nicky Henderson's RSA Chase third Long Run, a high-class field of 53 entries was unveiled today for the first big race of the new jumps season on 13 November.

Long Run is the sponsor's favourite at 7-2, with Great Endeavour, who landed the Byrne Group Plate at Cheltenham in March for trainer David Pipe, a 5-1 shot.

Johnson said: "The race has been lucky for me in the past and I hope Great Endeavour has a chance of continuing that.

"David says he has put on a lot of condition and he's grown up over the summer. Timmy Murphy gets on very well with him and he jumps for fun.

"You have to be able to jump at Cheltenham and the way Timmy is enthusing about him, you'd hope that he'd have a great each-way chance."

Connections of Sunnyhillboy, who was runner-up to Great Endeavour at Cheltenham, are keeping their fingers crossed that they can get a run into the 6-1 third-favourite before committing him to the extended 2m 4f handicap.

Frank Berry, racing manager to owner JP McManus, said: "We were hoping to get a run into him in the meantime but we've been struggling and it's a bit up in the air.

"I don't know where we could start off but he's ready for a run once we get a bit of safe ground."
