Jol in frame for top job at Hamburg

Martin Jol: could return at Hamburg
13 April 2012

Former Tottenham manager Martin Jol emerged today as Hamburg's first choice to replace Huub Stevens as coach.

According to the German club's chairman Horst Becker, the board of directors are due to meet next Tuesday to discuss the details of an offer made to Jol, who has been out of work since being axed by Spurs seven months ago.

If the deal is approved, the Dutchman could be named as Stevens's successor within 24 hours, just days before the end of the Bundesliga season.

Stevens will leave the club this summer to take over at PSV Eindhoven. Hamburg have been looking for a new coach since his announcement last December.

Meanwhile, Liverpool coach Alex Miller is in the running to be the manager of Japanese J-League club JEF United Chiba.
