Jonnie Peacock: I want to break the world record at the London 2017 World ParaAthletics Championships

Jonnie Peacock has his sights set on a world record in the capital next year.

The 23-year-old retained his T44 100metres Paralympic title in Rio four years on from blazing a trail in the event as a teenager in London.

But Peacock warned his rivals he has more to come and aims to show that at next July’s World ParaAthletics Championships here.

The British star’s personal best of 10.81sec is 0.2sec shy of the world record set by American Richard Browne in Doha last year.

“You haven’t seen the best of me,” said Peacock. “You always want to be talking about world records and looking towards them and I’m no different.

“There’s nearly a year to go the championships and it’s a different track to the one that was laid for London 2012. That was quick and I ran some fast times there. I’d love to do the same in London and I’m hoping it’s a track that can help me go quicker than ever. But the dream and the focus is of the gold once more.”

Peacock was guided to both his Paralympic golds by Dan Pfaff but had split with his coach for a time when Pfaff returned to the United States.

The pair were reunited in the lead up to Rio, and Peacock said: “It’s exciting to get more time with Dan and it feels right now that things can only get better for London.”
