Double Paralympic champion Jonnie Peacock says the capital will once again be a showcase as the Olympic Stadium prepares to host the biggest sporting event since London 2012.

The 100m sprint star said he was left disappointed by last year’s Rio Paralympics after they were down-sized following financial cuts.

But Peacock said London 2017, when world Olympic and Paralympic stars will return to the capital in July and August, will put Para sport “back to where it should be”.

His comments came as he and Mayor Sadiq Khan announced a scheme allowing 250,000 London children to apply for tickets for the World ParaAthletics Championship, including seats for as little as £3.

The championship, from July 14 to 23, will see Paralympic stars such as Peacock, Hannah Cockroft and Richard Whitehead return to the Olympic Stadium.

Peacock met pupils at Marion Richardson and Mowlem primary schools, in Tower Hamlets, where he gave a PE lesson and talked about Para sports as part of the tickets launch.
