Jose Mourinho gives Paulo Sousa a hand at QPR

New Queens Park Rangers manager Paulo Sousa has revealed he regularly rings Jose Mourinho for advice.

The former Portugal midfielder, who replaced the sacked Iain Dowie last week, knows the ex-Chelsea boss is a difficult act to follow, especially for someone who has inherited a stuttering Championship side.

Rangers scarcely deserved their victory over struggling Charlton last night but Sousa said: "I am proud because a Portuguese coach has been a winner here and I want to be one, too. He helps me each day because I speak with him often. In this job he is more experienced than me but I am going my way and I know what I can do, which is a great job."

Sousa's English is not perfect but that hasn't stopped him giving a pep talk to striker Dexter Blackstock, who scored both goals.

He said: "I spoke with him one day ago and watched his goals with him. I believe in him and what he can give to us. I told him he needs to think about himself and what he can give to the team, not on other things. He knows how to score."

Charlton looked nothing like the shambles that cost Alan Pardew his job on Saturday and caretaker Phil Parkinson saw his side boss the game for more than an hour.

However, Frenchman Therry Racon's first goal in English football was all they could muster.

Parkinson is keen to get another loan player in, even though there are already five in the squad. He said: "We will just see how it goes over the next couple of days."
