Kafelnikov comfortably into Milan semis

13 April 2012

Yevgeny Kafelnikov has moved into the semi-finals of the Milan Indoor Open.

The Russian breezed past Vladimir Voltchkov of Belarus 6-4, 6-3.

The number two seed will face seventh-seeded Swiss Roger Federer who defeated Goran Ivanisevic 6-4, 6-4.

The unpredictable Croat big server had three double faults when Federer broke him in the fifth game of the first set and four when he again lost his serve in the second set.

Federer denied Ivanisevic his first ATP semi-final in more than a year.

Ivanisevic, a two-time winner in Milan and a wild card entry in this edition, has slipped to his lowest ranking in the ATP list since 1988.

He has been struggling for much of the last year with left shoulder problems and this defeat won't have helped.
