Keane lines up McShane in £5m double bid

13 April 2012

Sunderland boss Roy Keane has opened talks with West Bromwich on a £5 million bid for Paul McShane and Paul Robinson.

It is understood the Midlands club have allowed the pair to talk to Keane even though the bid has yet to be formally accepted.

A source close to West Bromwich said: "Sunderland have been given permission to have talks and the players are in the North-East now."

It is believed Albion are also looking for a player-exchange as part of the deal and Republic of Ireland striker Stephen Elliott has been suggested.

McShane, a 21-year-old Republic of Ireland defender, won the FA Youth Cup with Manchester United in 2003 and joined Albion on a free transfer last August. Left-back Robinson, 28, is a tough, uncompromising character in the Keane mould with top-flight experience.

Keane expects to hear whether David Nugent will agree to move to Wearside for £7m when the England and Preston striker returns from holiday on Tuesday.
