British boxer Kell Brook will defend his IBF world welterweight title against American Errol Spence Jr in the UK, promoter Eddie Hearn has confirmed.

Terms have been agreed for the fight, which is reportedly set to take place in Brook's home city of Sheffield on May 20.

Hearn posted on Twitter on Monday evening: "Terms agreed for @SpecialKBrook v @ErrolSpenceJr -full announcement coming soon -fight will take place in the UK. Best fight in the division."

Brook quickly retweeted the statement.

Mandatory challenger Spence, 26, is unbeaten in 21 professional contests, with 18 knockout wins.

There was talk that Brook could face fellow Brit Amir Khan, but Hearn dropped a huge hint in January that negotiations were not progressing well.

"There's rumours that Amir wants to take a warm-up fight first, which would be disappointing,” Hearn told Sky Sports.

"We have a meeting on Friday. Hopefully we can say 'let's get this going'."

"When you're talking about a split; Amir might say 'I'm a much bigger name'…We disagree because we're world champion. How much value do you put on a belt?
