Kelvin joins the clanger family

Portsmouth 4 Wimbledon 1

Wimbledon manager Stuart Murdoch watched in horror as goalkeeper Kelvin Davis produced a howler straight out of the Peter Enckelman book of boobs against Portsmouth.

The night after Aston Villa keeper Enckelman allowed a throw-in to roll under his foot and into the net during their 3-0 defeat to Birmingham, Davis produced a copy-cat blunder that left him red-faced.

Davis allowed Mark Williams's 25-yard back-pass to slip under his foot to present Portsmouth with their third goal at Fratton Park as Harry Redknapp's side maintained their lead at the top of the First Division.

Murdoch, who was Davis's goalkeeping coach before becoming manager, said: "It was just one of those bizarre things that beggar belief. To make it more bizarre, it's the second night running that something like it has happened.

"You don't usually see that kind of mistake over the course of a season. But now that's two in two nights.

"There is no doubt that 100 times out of 101, Kelvin would get that right but it just rolled under his foot. You've never seen that happen to him before and you'll never see it happen again but we are full of bizarre things at this club."

Matters were compounded for the Dons when Williams was shown a red card for a second bookable offence in the 52nd minute.

The defender's challenge on Pompey striker Vincent Pericard gave the referee no option but to give him his marching orders.

But Murdoch praised his team despite the defeat. "There were loads of positives to take from the game," he said. "I thought the boys did brilliantly in the second half when we went down to 10 men.

"We stuck at it, worked hard and passed the ball well. Jobi McAnuff was a revelation down the right for us and at 1-1 we gave them big problems.

"But we can't give the top-ofthe-league side four goals and expect anything from the game, so that was disappointing.

"At 1-1 I fancied us for the next goal but we gifted them with a couple and from then on they were always in control of the situation. The third goal was a turning point and then Mark got sent off. It was just one of those nights when things just went against us. We went from one calamity to another."

Pericard put the home side ahead but Neil Shipperley headed his seventh goal of the season to level matters.

Svetoslav Todorov restored Portsmouth's lead on the halfhour-before Davis's clanger extended their advantage.

Matt Taylor made it four in the 72nd minute to maintain Pompey's 100 per cent home record.
