Ken pledges £18.5m Palace revamp

Ken Livingstone today announced a new £18.5million package to renovate the crumbling sports facilities at Crystal Palace.

Lottery cash distributor Sport England have guaranteed £1.5m to bring the outdoor athletics stadium up to scratch for the annual London Grand Prix, a key part of the capital's image during the 2012 Olympic bid.

The Mayor told the London Assembly that Sport England and the Government are now prepared to provide an additional £10m towards a new indoor sports centre. He has also asked the London Development Agency for £2m and urged Bromley to apply for up to £5m from the Heritage Lottery Fund which supports refurbishment of historic sites.
