Khan is making his move

14 April 2012

Frenchman Francois Delamontagne and South African Darren Fichardt shared the lead after the rain-dalayed opening round in the Mallorca Classic.

These two were among 60 players forced to complete their rounds this morning following two thunderstorms. Delamontagne and Fichardt both had five-under-par 65s, which put them one shot ahead of Englishman Simon Khan and Spanish duo Sergio Garcia and Carlos Rodiles.

Khan, the surprise winner of the Wales Open earlier this season, missed a six-foot birdie putt on the 14th and dropped a shot on the next. "Overall I'm happy but a little disappointed with this morning," said the Essex professional.

"I left myself a birdie putt on the 14th last night when it was getting dark but in hindsight I should have had a go at it." Khan only had a 20-minute break before starting his second round and picked up three birdies to reach the turn in 32 and lead on seven under par.
