Khan to face trial over dangerous driving

April date: Amir Khan leaves Bolton Crown Court but must return in six months for trial
14 April 2012

Olympic silver medalist Amir Khan will face trial on a charge of dangerous driving.

Khan, 19, of Lostock, near Bolton, hit a pedestrian in his BMW 6 convertible earlier this year, breaking the man's leg.

Appearing today at Bolton Crown Court, Khan - who spoke only once to confirm his name - pleaded not guilty and a trial date was fixed for April 23 next year.

The boxer was arrested in June after the collision in Bradshawgate in Bolton town centre on the evening of March 2.

The trial at Bolton Crown Court is expected to last up to three days.

Khan, who is widely tipped to win a world title, shot to fame at the 2004 Athens Olympics when he won a silver medal.

He signed a reported £1 million contract to turn professional and has yet to be beaten in the ring as a pro.
