Knight's coming up Roses

14 April 2012

The bumper that was run on Grand National day last season is looking pretty hot thanks to the subsequent efforts of those that contested it and RINGAROSES (Ascot, 2.45) should once again highlight the quality of that field.

Best Mate's trainer Henrietta Knight looks to have another gelding with massive potential.

Sixth in the Aintree race — his only defeat in four runs — he looked a classy hurdler when toying with his opponents at Kempton last month on his first run over hurdles.

Admittedly, he faces stiffer rivals today but it will be disappointing if he can't deal with them.

In a race like the Ladbroke Hurdle, you need to be looking for a runner which may still hold a few secrets from the handicapper.

Tipperary All Star may have won with ridiculous ease at Cheltenham on his latest run but a 24lb hike puts a massive dent in his chances.

I like Acambo, unraced since landing the Swinton Handicap Hurdle at Haydock in May, and TARLAC (Ascot, 1.40).

It is only a year and a half since he was running in a Group One race on the Flat in Germany and there looked to be more improvement in him when he won at today's track on his seasonal comeback.

Conditions should be right for his stablemate COPSALE LAD (Ascot, 1.10), whose last run when a fancied contender in the Paddy Power Gold Cup at Cheltenham can be ignored as he was badly hampered.

He looks a good bet in the BGC Silver Cup.
