Frank Lampard has been confirmed as England captain for Saturday's friendly international with Spain at Wembley.

The Chelsea midfielder will lead out England for the second time as the official skipper John Terry is not starting against the World Cup winners.

Lampard's only other match as Fabio Capello's on-the-field lieutenant was another friendly, against Denmark in Copenhagen, nine months ago which England won 2-1.

Manchester United defender Phil Jones will play in midfield against the Spanish, Capello said.

Meanwhile Gabriel Agbonlahor has been ruled out of the game with a hamstring injury.

The Aston Villa man was hoping to win his fourth cap but suffered an injury in training on Thursday.

While the damage is not thought to be serious, it was decided to send Agbonlahor back to Villa for further treatment, ending his chances of facing the world and European champions.

"Gabriel Agbonlahor has this morning returned to Aston Villa," confirmed the FA. "Having been assessed by the England medical staff, Agbonlahor is unable to train today at Wembley and has returned to his club."

The England players and coaching staff held a two minutes' silence in the Wembley centre circle in honour of Remembrance Day before undertaking their final training session ahead of the game.
