Lance won't rush decision over seventh tour

13 April 2012

Lance Armstrong will take his time before deciding whether he will attempt to win the Tour de France for a seventh time in succession.

The American completed an unprecedented sixth Tour victory in Paris yesterday to become the most successful competitor in cycling's most gruelling and most famous race.

The victory enabled Armstrong to surpass five-time Tour winners Miguel Indurain, Bernard Hinault, Eddy Merckx and Jacques Anquetil in the record books.

But the big question was whether the 32-year-old Texan would return next year to retain his title. "I'm going to think about it in the next few months," he said. "Whatever happens, I'll be back some time in my career.

"When I won my first Tour it was fantastic but after six it is incredible."

The 20th and final stage was won by Belgian rider Tom Boonen.
