Larder: It's payback time for Wallabies

Phil Larder today said that the humiliation endured on last summer's tour to Australia is fuelling England's desire to gain revenge over the Wallabies at Twickenham on Saturday.

Larder, the former Great Britain rugby league coach, was the defensive guru who helped England defeat Australia in the World Cup Final a year ago, but he saw all that good work undone on 26 June in Brisbane when the Wallabies hammered England 51-15.

The England defensive coach will not accept any excuses about that performance, even though England were missing key players.

Larder said: "That was the most humiliating experience I have had as a coach. When the match was over the players and management vowed that when we met Australia again it would be payback time.

"This match is much bigger than the South Africa contest last Saturday because the Wallabies showed us up. They have got the most outstanding back division in the world and to take them on is why we play international rugby."

Head coach Andy Robinson supported this view and made it clear his players were "up for it" against their arch-rivals.

Robinson said: "The Wallabies test you for any sign of weakness and then attack it relentlessly.

"When we were humiliated in the summer they hit us with a series of tries and they were ruthless."

England have just one injury doubt, with replacement prop Andrew Sheridan struggling with a back problem he aggravated weighttraining on Sunday.

The team itself is unchanged from the XV that beat South Africa on 32-16 Saturday.

Centre Henry Paul will be up against Mat Rogers, another former league international, who was last night cleared to play for the Wallabies despite being involved in a alleged incident with a fan outside an Edinburgh nightclub.
