Last minute rush for plane tickets

14 April 2012
  • Fans who want to make a trip to the final will have to find more than £1,000 to get one of the few remaining seats. BA has only seven empty seats for the whole of this week, and they were expected to have gone by tonight. Other options include flying via America or Singapore. Tickets start at £3,245.
  • The final will bring a breakfast time bonanza for pubs at home as more than 15,000 will open at 8am on Saturday. The British Beer and Pub Association anticipates one of the biggest national drinking sessions of recent years, with an extra seven million pints being downed.
  • Jonny Wilkinson might carry the hopes of all England fans, but the one person who won't be watching the final is his mother Philippa. She will be going for a walk because the pressure is all too much. "I just can't watch when Jonny is playing - it makes me too nervous," she said. "My husband, who is in Australia with Jonny and the team, texts me the score at the end of the game."
  • Prince Harry roared on England in Sydney, but found time to send some messages home. On a flag of St George was scrawled: "Hi Dad and Willy."
