Lauren ready to put club ahead of country

13 April 2012

Lauren may sacrifice playing for Cameroon so he can keep his Arsenal place.

The defender, who has started all the Premiership champions' games this season, is considering ending his international career by November.

Cameroon had a disappointing World Cup after internal conflict dogged their preparations before arriving in the Far East in the summer.

Lauren, 25, has been training with the Cameroon squad in Germany this week but he said: "I have been thinking about the national team and thinking that I want to play for Arsenal all the time, to be fully focused here. I will see in the next couple of months.

"You don't get to play 100 per cent for your club and that is what I want to do. In the last two years I had to go to the Olympics and I was injured after that.

"I then had to go to the African Nations' Cup and I was out again. It made it harder for me to settle here."

Meanwhile, Arsenal's Matthew Upson is set to sign a three-month loan deal with Reading. The 23-year-old centre-back has not featured for the Gunners this season.
