Lawrenson: Liverpool are 'going nowhere'

14 April 2012

Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson believes the current Reds side is "going nowhere" under the leadership of Gerard Houllier.

Houllier watched his team go down 1-0 at home to Charlton on Easter Monday, a result which severely dents their Champions League aspirations and they entertain Fulham on Saturday desperate to cling onto fourth place in the Barclaycard Premiership.

Lawrenson is alarmed at the club's lack of consistency and revealed his fears in his column in the Liverpool Daily Post.

"This team is going nowhere in my opinion," he said.

"I've got nothing against Mr Houllier, but he's in his sixth year at the club now and it's all about management style.

"Liverpool have struggled to beat many of the top sides this season because they haven't got enough options in attack.

"Take two players who should be providing the quality from the flanks, Harry Kewell and El Hadji Diouf.

"Kewell has been in and out of form all season, but Diouf? Does he add anything? No."
