Le Guen ready for derby tussle

12 April 2012

Rangers manager Paul Le Guen insists his side are ready for Sunday's Old Firm clash with Celtic after qualifying through to the last 32 of the UEFA Cup with a 1-0 win over Partizan Belgrade at Ibrox.

Defender Alan Hutton's first goal of the season after 54 minutes gave the home side all three points after an uninspired first half.

Asked if his side were ready for the visit of the 16-point runaway league leaders, Le Guen said: "Yes, I think we can be confident. But the recovery will be very important. I think we are better now but perhaps Celtic are better too."

He added: "It was a great performance and great to finish first in the group.

"It is important to keep the momentum going and keep on winning, that is important for the young players in the team.

"We didn't concede but we lacked concentration near the end although we defended well. But we are delighted to be through and and I have no preferences on who we get.

"All the players did well and I like having the problem of who will play in the next game."

It was another disappointing night for Filip Sebo, with the Slovakian striker again failing to hit the net.

Le Guen added: "He is working hard but he did not get rewarded."

Only some poor finishing from the visitors prevented a troubled night for Le Guen's side, who struggled to impose themselves on their rather ordinary opponents.
