Le Saux welcomes Hoddle

13 April 2012

Graeme Le Saux would be quite happy if Glenn Hoddle returned to Southampton as manager.

Chairman Rupert Lowe is in talks with Hoddle about a possible return to the club as Gordon Strachan's successor and the controversial decision could be confirmed at a board meeting tonight.

Hoddle's agent, Dennis Roach, was at Saturday's game against Everton, although Lowe claimed there was no significance in his presence.

Hoddle, who managed Southampton from January 2000 to March 2001 before leaving acrimoniously to join Tottenham, has become a hate figure among many supporters.

Fans voiced their opposition against his possible appointment during Saturday's 3-3 draw at St Mary's.

But Le Saux, speaking at the launch of a health fundraising initiative in London, said: 'I have worked with Glenn with England and I have always had a very good relationship with him - he is a good coach.

'Players accept whatever happens, our job is to play football and believe in the person who is in charge.

'Everybody has to back it and get on with what is important.'

The defender, capped 36 times by England, also claimed he had not heard any dissent from the players over Hoddle.

He added: 'You have to have faith in the decision that the chairman and the board will make.'
