Ledley King apologises following nightclub incident

Ledley King has said sorry to Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp after he was bailed by police following an alleged assault outside a London nightclub.

The Spurs club captain was questioned on suspicion of assault on another man in Soho during the early hours of Sunday following Tottenham's 0-0 draw at Everton.

King has been bailed until mid-July while inquiries continue into the fracas. In a statement, the 28-year-old defender said: "I sincerely regret that a night out with friends went too far. I have apologised to Harry and I fully appreciate that, as a professional footballer, I have a duty to behave in a responsible manner.

"I am assisting the police with their inquiries. Anyone who knows me, knows that much of what has been suggested is totally out of character."

The incident is reported to have taken place outside Punk night club in Soho Street. The man at the centre of the accusations is door guard Waheed Butt, who claims they got into a row after he tried to stop King entering the club.

Butt told BBC radio: "He said I'm a rich guy, I've got nothing to lose, I'm a big star, you, you're nothing on your £10 an hour job,' and stuff like that."

Meanwhile, Wilson Palacios is not expected to return to Spurs before the end of the season after the midfielder returned home to Honduras this weekend following the murder of his kidnapped younger brother.

The remains of Edwin Palacios, who had not been seen since October 2007, had just been discovered by authorities.
