Lee Westwood is now in a Major huff over that No1 question

Marco Giacomelli13 April 2012

World No1 Lee Westwood is so fed up being asked why he has never won a Major that he said today he may never answer that question again.

The 38-year-old claimed the Indonesian Masters title on Sunday to replace German Martin Kaymer at the top of the rankings.

While Kaymer won the PGA Championship last year, Westwood has never triumphed in one of golf's four big tournaments, leading to some observers to question the value of the Englishman's position in the world standings.

A riled Westwood insisted today becoming No1 and winning a Major were separate issues.

"The amount of times I have to answer it gets on my nerves," he said. "This might be the very last time I could be answering this question. It could be no comment after this. The world rankings and major championships are two completely separate things."

Westwood was second at The Masters and The Open last year and has been third in the PGA Championship and US Open.

"I haven't won a Major yet but hope to do so soon," he said as he prepared for the Ballantine's Championship, which starts in Seoul on Thursday. "I've had a lot of good chances to win Majors but it just hasn't happened.

"But the world rankings are all about consistency and playing well week-in and week-out, which I tend to do.

"The secret to being world No1 is having the consistency, and all parts of your game have to be good to do that."

Westwood topped the rankings for 17 weeks after deposing Tiger Woods in November.
