Leeds could return Di Canio to Premiership

Paolo Di Canio believes he can make a shock Premiership comeback this season at 34 with cash-strapped Leeds United.

His agent claimed last night that the controversial Italian striker, who left relegated West Ham in tears, has been the subject of initial talks with the club.

Matteo Roggi, who named promoted Serie A side Siena as Leeds' main rivals, said: 'There is nothing concrete, but Paolo's first choice would always be England.'

Jody Morris is looking for a fresh start off the pitch as well as on it, following his move to Elland Road from Chelsea. The former England Under 21 midfielder, famously castigated over his behaviour by Chelsea chairman Ken Bates in the club programme, is determined to leave behind his bad-boy image at Stamford Bridge.

He said yesterday: 'There have been things written which were a joke, but some of it was my fault. I have to shake that off now by making headlines for the right reasons. If I'd not loved Chelsea I'd have left years ago, but I realised if I didn't go I'd regret it. No matter how well I was doing, they'd have some big-name player they'd bought who would replace me.

'I never achieved my potential - it's hard when you're in and out, playing two games then missing five. Hopefully, I'll get my chance here at Leeds.' Leeds have also confirmed the signing of Lens defender Zoumana Camara on a season-long loan.

The 24-year-old is due to make his debut in a friendly at Burnley on Sunday.
