Leeds plea for new deadline

Leeds United today confirmed they are in talks with creditors to extend their Monday deadline to find potential investors.

In a statement to the City, Leeds said they are in "continuing, constructive discussions with a number of parties" as they seek to avoid going into administration.

But if a buyer is not found, the directors want to be given until the end of the month to see if money comes in from player sales.

If they were able to sell stars such as Alan Smith, it would give them time to raise the £5million to £8m needed to keep the club afloat until the end of the season.

Leeds also denied reports that Sheikh Abdul Mubarak Al-Khalifa has raised £35m for a take-over.

The club said: "We have not received any satisfactory evidence from Sheikh Al-Khalifa that funds exist to fulfil any proposal under discussion between him and the company."
