Lehman pleased Clarke will play

12 April 2012

American captain Tom Lehman believes both the Ryder Cup and the European team will be stronger for the inclusion of Darren Clarke.

Northern Irishman Clarke has only just returned to competitive golf after taking time out due to the death of his wife.

Lehman, in a press conference televised by Sky Sports, said: "I think all in our team are pleased he is playing. It is a better Ryder Cup with him. There is obvious support for Darren and I am happy he is playing. He is going to make the European team better and the Ryder Cup stronger."

Woosnam was pleased to see Clarke play well at the Madrid Masters over the weekend.

The Welshman said: "I saw his article in the paper after he shot 68. I think Darren did very well all week. He is up for it."

Woosnam has been pleased with the form of a number of his players in recent weeks but insists that will count for little once the competition gets under way on Friday.

He said: "Our side have come much more into form and are ready for this match but we are not sure what is going to happen in this match.

"Both sides will raise their games, making for an exciting week ahead. Everyone raises their game for the Ryder Cup."
