Leigertwood makes his mark

Wimbledon defender Mikele Leigertwood is determined to hang on to his first-team place at Reading tomorrow.

Having come through the ranks with Wimbledon, Leigertwood spent time on loan with Leyton Orient before returning to Selhurst Park in time to make his debut in the 2-0 home defeat by Barnsley in the final game of last season.

The 20-year-old played in Saturday's 3-2 home defeat by Leicester and Tuesday's 4-1 Worthington Cup success at Southend and he now wants to extend his stay in the starting line-up.

He said: "I'm glad to be playing in the first team. It's nice to see that the manager has given me the chance. Starting for the team is a boost for me."
