Lewis in 50-50 Tyson deal

13 April 2012

Lennox Lewis will split the purse 50-50 with Mike Tyson if their £70 million showdown goes ahead this summer.

But Tyson will have to compensate his pay-per-view network Showtime out of his own pocket.

Lewis, the undisputed world champion, has again emphasised his desire to fight Tyson and, following Iron Mike's offer to stage the contest as early as June this year, has made the challenger an offer.

Lewis will get to choose both the venue and the date for the fight and said: "Mike wants us to share purse on a 50-50 basis. I am prepared to do that provided the live payper-view for the fight is on my network HBO/TVKO and that Mike compensates his network Showtime out of his 5o per cent of the purse."

Lewis authorised a meeting in New York between his business manager Adrian Ogun and Tyson's adviser Shelley Finkel, designed to give the major meeting of muscle a central spot in the 2001 sporting calendar.

"Mike (Tyson) through Shelley (Finkel) made an offer to me to fight as early as June this year, leaving me to chose the date and location," said Lewis. I am delighted to accept the offer."
