Lita assault complaint withdrawn

12 April 2012

Reading striker Leroy Lita, who was arrested after he was accused of head-butting a man during a night out, was told on Monday he will not face prosecution.

The 21-year-old was questioned by police in Bristol on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm after a 24-year-old local man claimed he had been attacked in the Haymarket area of the city. The England Under-21 striker, who signed for the Premiership new boys last summer from Bristol City for £1million, had been accused of leaving his alleged victim with a black eye.

But an Avon and Somerset Police spokesman said the Congo-born striker would face no further action after the complaint was withdrawn.

"The 21-year-old man bailed last month pending further enquiries will face no further action," he said. "The 24-year-old who made the allegation has now withdrawn the complaint."

Lita was fined by Reading boss Steve Coppell after his arrest, which came just hours after his team had lost to Wigan on August 26.
