Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has said Brendan Rodgers must win trophies if he wants to be considered a 'great manager'.

The Reds face Aston Villa in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley on Sunday as they close in on a first final since 2012, when Kenny Dalglish was in charge.

Rodgers has since taken the reins and a number of astute signings helped Liverpool return to the Champions League this season after narrowly missing out on the Premier League title last year.

And Carragher has hailed the work of Rodgers, but feels the former Swansea boss must start winning silverware.

Asked if Rodgers is doing a great job, Jamie Carragher told BBC Sport: "I think he's doing a very good job. I think when you talk about a great job - you've got to win trophies.

"I think he's done a very good job up until now. His first year wasn't easy, but from the signings of Sturridge and Coutinho it was top-four form until the end of the season.

"Last year - unbelievable season. This year if you get get a top-four place or the FA Cup, I think it's been another very good season."
