Ljungberg eager to secure new deal

Freddie Ljungberg wants his Arsenal future decided before the summer break.

The midfielder could start next season with just a year left on his contract and both Real Madrid and European Cup finalists AC Milan know that the player could become available at a bargain price.

In an echo of Dennis Bergkamp's contract complaints last week, Ljungberg is frustrated that talks have yet to be finalised. He is happy at Arsenal but wants the security of a long-term deal.

Following Saturday's FA Cup Final against Manchester United, the Swede is needed for international duty for a World Cup qualifier against Malta. He will then be leaving for his summer holidays and is hoping his contract will be sorted out before he reports back in July for pre-season preparations.

Ljungberg is in line for a starting place against United after recovering from a hip problem. Also set to play is Jose Reyes, who has overcome a thigh injury.

Meanwhile, Arsenal have been linked today with 24-year-old Brazilian striker Afonso Alves, who plays for Swedish champions Malmo.
