Loffreda waits on Tigers review

12 April 2012

Leicester director of rugby Marcelo Loffreda is unsure whether he has done enough to keep his job at Welford Road next season.

The Tigers have a chance to defend their Guinness Premiership title when they tackle Wasps at Twickenham on Saturday - but Loffreda's future remains in doubt.

"I am very happy what we have done with the team and with the players but it is not my opinion that counts," said Loffreda.

Leicester's inconsistency saw them come perilously close to missing out on the Premiership play-offs and Heineken Cup qualification, while the club has been beset by whispers of divisions within the camp.

Loffreda, who only arrived after the World Cup when the season was already under way, has had to strike a balance between producing the results and settling into a new environment.

The 49-year-old believes he has done that, delivering appearances in the EDF Energy Cup and Premiership finals - but he would not be surprised if the powers that be disagree.

Chief executive Peter Wheeler confirmed Loffreda's position will form part of Leicester's end-of-season review.

And Loffreda added: "In this part of the world, in the professional game, it is all about winning.

"It is unfair from one point of view. One part of the club just look for results. The other part looks to have some time to adapt, to get used to the place, the culture and a different type of game.

"Both positions are understandable. I am in one position, the other part is in the other position."
