Lomu joins Robinson's fan club

The biggest name in world rugby appears to have become a member of the game's fastest-growing fan club.

Jonah Lomu, the All Black once labelled a 'freak' by Will Carling, offered a similar assessment of England full back Jason Robinson yesterday, albeit in a more positive manner.

'He is a brilliant footballer,' said Lomu. 'If you give him too many options he'll run rings around you. You have to keep thinking about where he is running, because in a split-second he can turn and disappear again.

'That Jason Robinson sidestep is just mean. That is going to test anyone's turning speed. I'm just glad I've got long arms, so I might be able to catch him.' Lomu, in London for a video launch following New Zealand's successful autumn Test series, had a message for the many English suitors - Saracens, Bristol, Gloucester, Worcester, London Irish and Leeds - queuing up to pay for his services. In short, the colour of their money cannot, for the time being at least, compete with the All Black allure of more international honours.

Lomu added: 'I would come here, but I also want to play for the All Blacks and the ruling on that is if you are not playing in New Zealand you can't do that.'
