LTA chief is optimistic

13 April 2012

The chief executive of the Lawn Tennis Association, John Crowther, insists that British tennis is continuing to improve despite another poor showing at this year's Wimbledon.

Though only Tim Henman of the British competitors made it through to the championships' second week, Crowther believes the game is strengthening at grass-roots level.

Crowther is encouraged by recent developments under new performance director David Felgate.

Crowther said: "It is going to take some time to make all the changes. By the end of David's stewardship players will be doing better.

"Participation in the sport is growing and I am certain results will come through.

"There are now 600 mini tennis clubs, but it takes 10 years to bring people through."
