Lundgren starts search for next Murray

Peter Lundgren will begin scouring British tennis for the next Andy Murray as he settles into his new role as Davis Cup coach alongside captain John Lloyd this week.

Lundgren, former coach to Marat Safin and world number one Roger Federer, believes enough potential talent exists to help steer Great Britain back into the World Group.

Lundgren told PA Sport: "My job will be to look at the younger guys and the coaches and ultimately the hope is that we will come up with another Andy Murray soon to help us in Davis Cup."

He added: "Players like Alex Bogdanovic are close to getting into the top 100 which would be a good boost for the team while Andy's success is setting a great example.

"Andy is an unbelievable player who is only 19 and coped in the Ukraine with some great pressure. He has incredible potential and has a good chance to get in the top 10 next year."

But while he has put the long-term emphasis firmly on youth, Lundgren is convinced the immediate fix lies in persuading Tim Henman to reverse the retirement decision he made in January last year.

Lundgren and Lloyd are in Basle this week where the former British number one is due to begin his challenge in the Davidoff Swiss Indoors, and are confident of persuading him into a U-turn.

Lloyd failed to tempt Henman back for last month's Euro-African Zone relegation clash in Odessa but the prospect of a home tie against Holland in April may be more appetising.

Lundgren added: "We will have another go with Tim this week in Basle. I want Great Britain to get back in the World Group and if Tim is back the chances are much higher.

"Tim has never said never, so there is obviously a chance and that is why we have come here to speak to him. If he says yes it would be great, and if he says no at least we have tried."
