Craig Levein is considering handing QPR striker Jamie Mackie a call-up for Scotland's Euro 2012 double header against the Czech Republic and Spain next month.

Mackie has caught the eye of the Scotland boss with eight goals in seven npower Championship games this season and, with James McFadden ruled out with a cruciate injury, Levein looks set to draft in the former Plymouth striker. The 24-year-old was born in Dorking, Surrey, but qualifies for Scotland through his grandfather, who is from Kilmarnock.

Levein said in a statement: "Jamie is a player we have been aware of for some time and we have monitored his progress at QPR. He has had a tremendous start to the season and is a striker in form, which is a significant factor in us taking a closer look at him with a view to the forthcoming double header."

He added: "I will not name the squad until Thursday so don't want to start speculating about this player or that player, but Jamie's name has now appeared in the media and he is one who is eligible to play for Scotland.

"I am sure he will be an asset to our squad should he be selected, but at this stage I do not want to say too much more other than his goalscoring record speaks for itself."

Mackie, who moved from Plymouth to Loftus Road in the summer in a £150,000 deal, is keen to get his international career up and running.

He was quoted as saying: "I'd love to play international football in any capacity.

"I qualify for Scotland as well as for England and it's great for the CV."
