Malky's crucial test

On trial: caretaker boss Malky Mackay
13 April 2012

Watford will give caretaker-boss Malky Mackay a month to earn the job full time.

The Hornets have received about 50 applications for the post after they sacked Aidy Boothroyd earlier this week and former Carlisle boss John Ward and Millwall manager Kenny Jackett are still understood to be on the shortlist should Mackay fail. Mackay, 36, will be handed the opportunity to prove himself during Watford's forthcoming fixtures, starting with the trip to Swansea in the Championship on Sunday.

He will receive help from former Tottenham manager Keith Burkinshaw, who has rejoined the coaching staff on a short-term basis.
