Manchester City's top scorer Sergio Aguero does not intend to take short cuts in his recovery from injury.

Aguero, who has scored 26 goals for Barclays Premier League title-chasing City this term, has been out since suffering a hamstring injury in the Champions League loss at Barcelona on March 12.

It is his third setback of an otherwise outstanding season following previous calf and hamstring problems.

Manager Manuel Pellegrini hinted last week that Aguero could be fit to face Southampton in the Premier League this Saturday but the player himself - also crucial to Argentina's World Cup campaign - is cautious.

The 25-year-old told DirecTV: "With this recovery I am trying to do my best to be able to play again, but I cannot do it in a hurry.

"I do think to myself if something happens now, I will lose the rest of the Premier League season and the World Cup."
