Marathon to boost funds for 2012 park

The London marathon has agreed to inject £2million into the Olympic Park towards sports facilities after the Games.

The organisation will put the money towards the velopark in Hackney in 2013. Funding will go towards a cyclo-cross circuit, cycle speedway and a replacement for the Eastway cycle track.

The charitable arm of the marathon has a substantial fund for grassroots sports.

As well as investing in playing fields, it has also agreed to secure the financial future of hockey and wheelchair tennis facilities in the Olympic Park after the Games.

Marathon organisers are advising Olympic chiefs on staging the 2012 triathlon in Hyde Park and are expected to act as consultants on the Olympic marathon although it will not follow exactly the same route as the annual race.
