Martin Kaymer surprised at winning streak

German Martin Kaymer, the hottest thing in golf right now, has no explanation for why he cannot stop winning.

The 25-year-old made it three in a row in the Dunhill Links Championship at St Andrews yesterday - and during that run he was also part of the victorious European Ryder Cup side.

Up to fourth in the world as a result, Kaymer said: "People ask me why is it happening, but I'm surprised as well.

"I was never expecting it and I don't really have an answer for why I am playing so well at the moment.

"I've always played solid golf and my short game has improved big time the last two years and especially the last few months.

"Everybody here can hit the ball, everybody. But at the end of the day you have to make the putts - it's all about the putting."

Kaymer is the runaway leader of the European money list, but he is not claiming to be the best in the world yet.

To him that is his Ryder Cup partner Lee Westwood, although it will be the end of the month before the rankings show the Worksop golfer has moved ahead of Tiger Woods.

"The way he played with me last week was absolutely amazing. He played so solidly. His putting was good, chipping... the entire game was fantastic.

"I really see him as a role model."
