McClaren: I can be angry

12 April 2012

Steve McClaren insists he is not afraid to lose his temper if that is the best way to make a point to his players.

Rio Ferdinand said this week McClaren had more in common with Sir Alex Ferguson than Sven-Goran Eriksson.

And McClaren said: "I can get angry. I can get upset. I don't like losing and I don't like bad performances."

The new England manager likes to work with sports psychology and analysis technology like ProZone. But he is also capable of firing a verbal rocket at his team if he is not getting what he wants.

McClaren added: "I like giving the players feedback and that comes in many guises.

"One of those guises is straight after a game, being angry.

"One of them might be to a player in a team meeting where a point has to be made angrily.

"If that point has to be made like that, then so be it.

"Sometimes I have flown off the handle but what's been said should remain private."
