McLeish waits for Michel news

12 April 2012

Alex McLeish admits Birmingham are unlikely to complete the signing of Sporting Gijon midfielder Michel in time for Saturday's home clash with Stoke.

McLeish is keen to sign the Spanish player and talks are taking place over a possible deal in the region of £3million.

McLeish said: "The dialogue continues. It would be doubtful if we will have him for the weekend. I need to wait and see if everything gets agreed by all parties."

He added: "At the moment it is up in the air. It is definitely not a done deal."

McLeish is sweating on the fitness of left-back Gregory Vignal and striker Cameron Jerome for the clash with Tony Pulis' side.

Vignal suffered a hip injury during Wednesday night's win over Portsmouth while Jerome had to be substituted with an ankle problem.

The pair are set to undergo scans later today to determine the extent of their injuries.

McLeish said: "Gregory got a knock on his hip and it was restricting him. He was obviously struggling.

"It was a change we didn't want to make last night but you can't legislate for injuries.

"Gregory has made a difference to the team on the left side and I would be hoping he is going to be okay for the weekend. Jerome has a knock on his ankle. We'll have scans and we will wait and see."
