Melody can call the tune

Many entries in tomorrow's Gala Group Scottish Grand National seek compensation for losing out in the lottery that was Aintree's marathon 13 days ago.

But this Ayr event will be staged on wildly different ground. Rather than Aintree's all but unraceable ground, the going is good at the Scottish track.

The Aintree vanquished who departed very early or else prefer a sound surface - perhaps Addington Boy, Noble Lord, Strong Tel and Village King - can be given a squeak, but put a line through the rest.

Ante-post favourite Take Control bypassed Aintree for this event and he must play a leading role. But his best form has come on more testing ground.

Instead, Good Time Melody can go well at a big price.

Trainer Alan King believed he was the type for the Cheltenham Festival four-miler - he's certainly improved with every step up in trip and handles a sound surface well.

Forgive his latest run on sapping ground at Haydock - he's better judged on his Wincanton success.

The danger could be tough and consistent Hannigan's Lodger, provided she stays. Trainer Nigel Twiston-Davies is a dab hand at winning top staying handicaps with novice chasers and this mare held her own in dizzy company this term. Veteran Seven Towers has a good each-way chance on his third to Narrow Water.

Selections - 1: Good Time Melody; 2: Hannigan's Lodger; 3: Seven Towers; 4: Take Control
