Michael Schumacher is 'flawed', claims Stirling Moss

13 April 2012

Sir Stirling Moss has derided Michael Schumacher's achievement as a seven-time Formula One world champion, describing him as "flawed".

Schumacher, 41, endured a frustrating return to F1 this season following a three-year absence, finishing a lowly ninth in the standings, - a disappointment for a man who holds most of the sport's most significant records, including 91 race wins and those seven world titles.

Moss, though, is less than impressed, primarily as Schumacher never raced alongside a competitive team-mate, notably at Ferrari where he won five of his titles from 2000 to 2004.

"The fact he was seven-time world champion ruins what being a world champion is all about," said Moss.

The 81-year-old, arguably the greatest name never to win the title after finishing runner-up on four occasions, added: "He is flawed. He was all over the place. We never saw him at his best when he had a really good driver alongside him.

"We never saw him in a Ferrari with a driver of similar talent really, so I think that (his number of titles) is misleading."
